Tonight the Zeughauskino screens cinematographer Curt Oertel's 1954 documentary "Neue Welt -Vom Wigwam zum Wolkenkratzer" . After having worked alongside GW Pabst during the Weimar era (on such masterpieces as Die freudlose Gasse and Geheimnisse einer Seele) Oertel began directing his own films in the 30's. After having spent time in the US studying contemporary American architecture he created tonight's film tracing 500 years of architectonic endeavor, with special attention given to his European contemporaries Walter Gropius, Erich Mendelsohn and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Film historian Jean-Paul Goergen will introduce the film, which is part of DHM's film series Kunst des Dokuments - Architektur.
